OpenAI had its DevDay on October 6, 2025; honestly, it’s my first time paying attention. Apparently, they did this in 2023 and 2024 too, but those ones didn’t trend enough to enter my algorithm, or I didn’t care much about AI back then.
In case you’re wondering: OpenAI’s DevDay is like Apple’s big keynote event, but instead of new iPhones, you get new ways for AI to make you feel slightly dumber (and also more powerful).
I didn’t catch it live (because I was adulting), but I eventually sat down with a cup of coffee and watched the replay.
Here’s the breakdown in simple, normal-human, regular-people English.
1. ChatGPT Now Has Apps Inside It
So… ChatGPT can now run apps inside itself.
Imagine you ask it to make a playlist, and instead of saying, “Here are 10 songs you might like”, it actually opens Spotify and creates it for you.
Will it change your life today? Probably not. But it’s the kind of feature that’ll sneak up on us, eventually.
2. AgentKit: Build Your Own Smart Helpers
Next, they announced something called AgentKit. Basically, it lets developers create “agents”, digital assistants that can do multiple tasks by themselves.
Example: You could make one that books a flight, checks your calendar, and tells you, “Hey dummie, you have a meeting at the same time as this flight”, before confirming.
I’m curious to see how it differs from existing workflow builders like n8n. I’ll find some time within the month to try it out and will be back with my findings.
3. Codex Is Officially Out of Beta
Remember that OpenAI’s tool that helps people write code? Sorry, you won’t remember if you’re not a developer.
But OpenAI has that tool, it’s called Codex, and it’s now properly launched.
In non-tech language, Codex is like having a developer friend who never sleeps, never judges, and never says, “Bro, it’s working on my system.”
4. Sora 2: Text-to-Video
Now this one is somewhat the most important highlight. You must have seen the crazy videos going around.
Sora 2 is OpenAI’s new video model that turns text into videos. No camera. No editing. Just text and vibes.
Marketers, content creators, and procrastinators everywhere are already shaking.
It’s still invite-only, though (if you need an invite code, hit me up 👀).
5. GPT-5 Pro: The New Big Brain
They dropped a new version of the AI model, GPT-5 Pro.
They claimed it’s faster, more accurate, and can handle complex tasks without turning your question into a therapy session.
Businesses will primarily use this one behind the scenes. But you’ll feel the effect when your favorite apps suddenly start sounding a little too smart.
6. Smaller (Cheaper) Models for Everyone Else
Not everything needs “the smartest AI in the world”. Sometimes, you just need something small, quick, and cheap.
OpenAI released smaller versions of its voice and image tools for exactly that.
It’s perfect for small businesses and broke developers who still want to feel futuristic.
Final Thoughts
Most of these updates sound like “developer stuff”, but the real impact will show up everywhere, quietly. Because when you give developers more powerful tools, they build better products, and those products are what we, as regular humans, will use.
So yeah, we’re inching closer to that future where AI doesn’t just answer your questions, it handles them.
Till then, I’ll be over here in my corner, pretending I understand what’s going on.
And of course, I will write about it when I find something extra interesting.
